Client Brief

Global design and engineering consultancy Arcadis approached Hunters to support the procurement and installation of loose furniture for their new UK headquarters at 80 Fenchurch Street, London.

This followed a long-standing relationship with Arcadis, having previously collaborated on a range of projects as project managers. Off the back of the HQ success, we were later appointed to deliver four more sites across the UK in Leeds, Birmingham, and Scotland.

This brief was clear: sustainable, future-focused, and British where possible. We competed in and won a formal tender, helping Arcadis shape a workplace that truly reflects their brand values – progressive, purposeful and people-centred.

Design Approach

At the core of this project was a sustainability-led strategy, so promoting UK-based manufacturers was key. Senator was specified for the majority of desking and meeting room furniture, balancing sustainability credentials with commercial value and short lead times. The remainder of the selection featured high-quality brands including NaughtOne and Orangebox, chosen for their style, durability, and ethical production.

Shortly after the initial fit-out and during the era of workplace evolution post-COVID, Arcadis wanted us to reimagine a 60-position desk area. The goal was to transform a once static space into a highly agile business lounge that could flex to the ever-changing needs of hybrid work.

We proposed a range of ideas and ultimately developed a vibrant, multifunctional zone. From collaborative high benches and team tables to relaxed lounge areas, high-back booths, and AV-enabled presentation spaces, the area was completely redefined.

A standout feature was the modular Rhyme seating system by NaughtOne. Inspired by the Arcadis salamander logo, this sculptural centrepiece offered powered seating with integrated plinths and served as both a design talking point and functional meeting hub. Every detail was geared around versatility – with movable walls and pull-up screens.

Challenges & Results

Working with Arcadis meant working with industry experts. Their project managers and quantity surveyors knew the process inside-out, which meant every detail was under the microscope. Far from a challenge, it made for an energising collaboration, with constructive input throughout.

Timelines were tight, expectations high, and sustainability non-negotiable – all of which suited us perfectly. From early-stage showroom visits to the final AV-integrated elements, we remained hands-on, collaborative and agile from day one.

The success of 80 Fenchurch Street led directly to further projects across the country.
