BWB are a full service commercial law firm based in the City of London. They service a wide range of clients across a variety of sectors, with a particular commitment to the third sector. They work with more charities and social enterprises than any other UK law firm. The independent legal directory, Chambers UK, described BWB as a “City firm with a conscience.” Hunters provided a full furniture installation for the client in their new offices in the City of London.
This was a complex installation, with a variety of challenges.
We were asked to incorporate some of the client’s existing furniture stock into the package. This required an imaginative approach in finding the best way to integrate these pieces with new products. The swan chairs that we used in the reception, waiting and breakout areas were actually old products that we reupholstered to tie in with the project specification. These communal areas were supplemented with seating from Arper.
The site itself posed some logistical challenges. It was located at the busy intersection of Lower Thames Street and Southwark, meaning access was limited to one point in the basement of the building.
This entry point had no direct access to a service lift. Additionally, the building was in constant use by other tenants, so we had to minmise any disturbance caused to them to safeguard our client’s reputation. Our deliveries were phased over two weeks during normal working hours. All of these factors meant that meticulous planning was vital to the successful execution of the project.
We worked with the architect and project manager to deliver a furniture package that was practical yet elegant. Desking throughout was fitted with scope lights, both by Knoll, with World chairs by Humanscale. Meeting room chairs by Brunner were chosen for their sleek, minimalist design.
Flexibility was important when making our furniture choices for the main meeting room. We used lightweight cantilever chairs and San Siro tables, all by Kusch, to provide a versatile and mobile layout.
The twelve workpods by Allermuir were a particularly novel feature of this installation. Privacy is an essential commodity for a legal firm but difficult to create in an open plan environment. These workpods provide the privacy of a personal office without the cost in square footage. The end result was a chic and functional workspace that looked amazing and left the client ecstatic.
