Client Brief
The North East London NHS Clinical Commissioning Group (NEL CCG) wanted to create a health centre at the heart of Aldgate to stimulate and support patient wellbeing. The project involved combining two existing GP practices into a single, modern facility capable of accommodating an expected increase of 7,500 residents by 2033.
Design Approach
Having worked with the client for over 10 years, Hunters was called in to collaborate with AECOM and the NEL Strategic Estates Team to specify, procure, and install furniture solutions that complemented the architectural vision and met the functional requirements of a contemporary healthcare environment.
We were inspired by the zonal design, located around a central courtyard, which provided natural light with views out to a landscaped garden. The design focused on creating a calming and uplifting atmosphere with flexible workspaces featuring height-adjustable sit-stand desks, collaborative meeting tables and acoustic pods to promote agile working practices within a healthcare environment. We also incorporated plants and planters throughout the space to create a calm and serene but also uplifting environment.
Challenges & Results
A key challenge was executing the installation during the COVID-19 pandemic, which imposed restrictions on in-person interactions and limited showroom visits to six people. We adapted by blending virtual consultations with limited in-person meetings, making sure that final finish selections were completed efficiently at Senator’s fabric and finishes library.
Despite these challenges, the project was completed on time. We created a truly relaxing and inviting environment that exudes calm and serenity.
