Client Brief

Skyscanner’s Edinburgh office transformation was driven by a clear ambition: create a flexible, welcoming workplace that would encourage teams back in and support new ways of working. Appointed by BW: Workplace Experts, we were engaged to deliver the full furniture package, including reuse strategy, procurement, logistics and installation.

The brief called for a calm, homely environment with no fixed desks, strong acoustic performance and spaces that encourage collaboration. Business continuity was critical as the office needed to remain operational whilst refurbishment works took place, requiring careful phasing and coordination throughout.

Alongside new specification, there was a strong focus on retaining and reintegrating existing assets where possible — balancing sustainability, budget and programme without compromising the final aesthetic.

Design Approach

Our starting point was a detailed furniture audit. Task chairs, meeting pods, tables and soft seating were assessed for reuse, stored and strategically reallocated within the refurbished floor. This formed the backbone of the scheme, allowing new pieces to be layered in thoughtfully.

The reimagined Edinburgh workspace is anchored by a generous town hall space that occupies almost a quarter of the floor as a central gathering point designed for connection and shared moments. Surrounding this are lounge settings, café-style breakout areas and flexible work zones that allow teams to shift seamlessly between collaboration and focused work.

The overall feel is contemporary yet grounded. Acoustic considerations were woven into the layout, ensuring open areas remain comfortable and usable. Furniture selections prioritised comfort, adaptability and longevity, creating a workplace that feels natural to inhabit rather than overly corporate.

Challenges & Results

Delivering within a live environment required precision. One floor was decommissioned whilst another was intensified to maintain day-to-day operations during refurbishment. The programme shifted mid-project, requiring fast decision-making, careful tracking of assets and continuous coordination with BW and the Skyscanner team.

A key technical element involved the decommissioning and reinstatement of Framery and Mute meeting pods. To protect these high-value assets, we arranged specialist manufacturer training in mainland Europe, ensuring our team could dismantle and reassemble the pods safely and correctly.

Despite the evolving schedule, we maintained continuity for staff, safeguarded existing furniture and delivered a cohesive, future-ready workplace. The result is a refreshed Edinburgh hub that strengthens Skyscanner’s culture, supports flexible working and brings teams together in a space designed for connection.

The project has since been nominated for a Mix North Award, recognising excellence in workplace design and delivery.

Alongside Edinburgh, we also delivered Skyscanner’s Glasgow workplace transformation, managing reuse, relocation and consolidation across sites. Together, the projects demonstrate our ability to navigate complex programmes while maintaining design integrity and operational clarity.
