Client Brief

Walworth Town Hall, a Grade II-listed building and iconic landmark in South London, went through an entire revitalisation after suffering severe fire damage in 2013. General Projects, the developer leading the restoration, envisioned the site as a dynamic hub for business, culture, and community whilst preserving its architectural heritage. We were engaged to provide furniture consultancy, supply, and installation whilst working closely with design and build firm and longstanding client Whitepaper.

The brief emphasised blending modern design with the building’s rich history. The project included flexible office spaces for over 550 workers, a public café, rentable office spaces, and a library. Pops of colour were incorporated into the design to complement the preserved period features whilst creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere.

Design Approach

We collaborated closely with Whitepaper’s design team to align the furniture selections with the client’s vision of blending contemporary elements with the building’s history. Flexible office systems of single or double desk systems were selected to allow easier desk bookings. Special cables were ordered to integrate perimeter power seamlessly into the design and pops of colours were used throughout the building to bring a bright energy to the space without dimming the light of the exposed walls showing fire scars.

Challenges & Results

The project had several challenges due to the age and layout of the building. Careful planning was executed to overcome the access difficulties during installation, and perimeter power systems had to be creatively integrated due to structural limitations.

The result is a beautifully restored Walworth Town Hall that serves as a vibrant community hub.
